(top keyword locations) March 30 2006 This is a photo log of a custom home I designed at Folly Beach, SC. The client is going to be her own contractor for the entire project. This is a great way to save money while building a house if you have the time to dedicate to it. Other wise I would discourage it unless you have some experienced help. Unlike a typical home project, building in the coastal reign is very foreign to most builders. One of the biggest issues is that you are building in a very environmental sensitive location. If you dont do this correctly you may cause a lot of damage to the marsh and incur some rather large fines from the local governmental agencies.
My client purchased a gem of a lot overlooking the folly river a few years ago. This lot had been overlooked by most people because of the small size and the septic system will only support a 1 bedroom home. The price was right the view was priceless so my client purchased the lot. After the survey the client realized most of the lot was totally unusable unless she had retaining wall installed. This would allow her to build out to the critical marsh line. Here the workers are installing the wood retaining wall for the site. By doing this she will have a nice level lot that can maximize the entire usable area. Next week I will talk about how they install the pilings and what is the different between the two methods.

A view of the back side of the retaining wall as seen from the road. Lots of nice trees are on the side lots
